Inspired by the Japanese concepts of uchi (内 inside) and soto (外 outside), we created a jewellery brand that explores the balance between inner feeling and outer expression. Our pieces are minimal in form but rich in thought, designed to be worn with purpose, and crafted with care.

Our Story

Uchi and Soto started with two people who had spent years working behind the scenes in fast fashion. What looked glamorous on the surface often felt very different up close.
“We saw the waste. The burnout. Factories under pressure. People being treated like machines. Materials being discarded like they meant nothing. It got harder and harder to ignore. Eventually, we knew we couldn’t keep being part of it, not if we wanted to feel good about what we were creating.”

Crafted with Meaning

Our designs explore the space between identity and perception, where internal and external worlds meet.

Every piece is thoughtfully made.

We care about where our materials come from, who makes them, and what they stand for.

It’s jewellery made with care, for people who value meaning just as much as style.

We design in the space between the two, where identity meets expression.

It becomes part of how you move through the world.
We believe in clarity over clutter.
In doing less, but doing it better.

Every piece is designed to feel personal, to last, and to say something even if it’s quiet. We’re not here to chase trends or overcomplicate things. We’re here to make jewellery that feels good to wear, that holds meaning, and that respects the people and processes behind it.

Intentional. Understated. Built to last.
That’s how we work and why we started in the first place.

Our Practice

We care about how things are made; and why.
Each piece is crafted in small, deliberate batches.
That means less waste, more attention to detail, and quality you can feel.

Our materials are responsibly sourced.
We use recycled metals, traceable stones, and anything else that meets our standards: durable, considered, and aligned with the values we started with.

We work closely with skilled makers who understand that jewellery isn’t just about precision, it’s about feeling. Craft matters. So does care.

We don’t overproduce.
We don’t follow fast cycles.
Instead, we design timeless pieces meant to be worn on repeat, lived in, and passed on.

Because good jewellery should look good but also feel right. To wear. To give. To stand behind.

FOUNDERS

The People Behind Uchi & Soto 内 外

Uchi & Soto was created through a shared belief that jewellery should be more than decorative.

It should carry meaning, reflect intention, and bring together the balance between our inner and outer worlds.

Why We Created Uchi & Soto

Uchi & Soto was born from reflection, experience, and a desire to create something more lasting.

Each founder brings a different perspective, but all are united by the same intention: to build a jewellery brand rooted in meaning, clarity, and enduring design.

After 18 years running a fashion accessories wholesale business, designing and producing for major international brands, everything changed in 2023 following a health diagnosis. The decision was made to close the business and focus on recovery, creating time to step back and reflect.

During that period, I found inspiration in the calm, thoughtful principles of Japanese philosophy. While away from the industry, I realised how much I missed designing and creating, but knew that if I returned it had to be with a different intention: moving away from fast, disposable trends and toward jewellery with meaning, longevity, and purpose.

That reflection led to the creation of Uchi & Soto. The name reflects the balance between uchi, our inner private world, and soto, the outer self we share with others.

After eight years working across sales, fashion, technology, and operations, I experienced the industry from multiple angles, driving growth, building relationships, and helping brands come to life. While exciting and fast-moving, the constant cycle of trends eventually left me wanting to create something more personal.

When the vision for Uchi & Soto was shared with me, it immediately resonated. The philosophy of balancing uchi with soto - the self we present to the outside world - reflects the direction I believe fashion should move toward: away from fleeting trends and toward pieces with lasting meaning.

Co-founding Uchi & Soto allows me to bring together everything I’ve learned to help create jewellery that is thoughtful, enduring, and genuinely connected to the people who wear it.

After nearly 20 years in project management and marketing for global companies, my career was built around strategy, structure, and delivering large-scale initiatives. While rewarding, raising a family prompted a moment of reflection and a desire to move beyond the pace of corporate life toward something with greater purpose and personal meaning.

During that time, the vision for Uchi & Soto emerged. Its philosophy, and the balance between uchi and soto, resonated deeply with where I was in my own journey. It reflected the idea that what we create and wear should carry thought, intention, and longevity.

Co-founding Uchi & Soto became a natural next step: an opportunity to help build a brand that moves away from disposable culture and toward jewellery with meaning.

Our Shared Vision

Together, we created Uchi & Soto to offer jewellery rooted in meaning - designed with intention and crafted to endure beyond seasons and trends.
